Isn't buddhism grand? Could it be another rationale for obedience? Reject all emotion and desire ... or not reject, as that implies values and connection, but be the observer and don't get sucked in by the momentary, emotions, thoughts, etc. Doesn't it all sound so sterile? But we aren't allowed to be sad, happiness is such a shallow goal, goals in themselves are merely desires and we suffer in the first place because we want. So we can't want but we can't possibly be satisfied with isness. Hence we consume as some sort of existential solution to the problem ... the vacuity of mindless distraction from over connection to our investment in life.
